Setting

The world tells us to pick ourselves up by our bootstraps or if you work hard even you can do anything. That is the world talking, not what God tells us. This morning, while on the way to Menards to get 20 bags of sand, I was listening to The Message on Sirius XM, and Confidence by Sanctus Real came on. The song begins with “I’m not a warrior \ I’m too afraid to lose \I feel unqualified for what you’re callin’ me to”. Now, raise your hand if you feel that way at least some of the time. I think I see all of your hands raised. Because guess what, the world wants us to believe we have to do it on our own. The song then says, “But Lord with your strength \ I’ve got no excuse \’Cause broken people are exactly who you use”.; He then listed several of Biblical figures such as David, Daniel, and Moses to advance his plan.

We don’t have to do it on our own. The works already been done. We can have confidence that with Jesus we got this. No one can take this away from us.

Today’s Questions: Are you confident that you will do what God wants? Do you have a feeling of accomplishment with God’s help? What things are making you doubt that you got this?

Scripture
  • Psalm 27:3 – Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.
  • Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
  • Hebrews 10:35-36 – Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
  • Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Reflection

God made us in his image. He is a confident, loving, care, and awesome God. We have those qualities through him. We see that God has commanded us to be strong and courageous. Even if we have enemies (they could be people or things), we have nothing to fear as God is with us always, strengthening us and protecting us.

The verse I want to concentrate on, as it’s new to me, is Hebrews 10:35-36. We see here God telling us not to through away our confidence. Like so many other things, God has given us a spirit of confidence. This will help us endure and tackle anything that gets in our way. The world tells us that we aren’t good enough, strong enough, smart enough, or whatever and that is a lie. It’s sin and temptation trying to take away one of God’s greatest gifts. When we use our confidence, we can do anything. That confidence is God living in his and with us. So do not throw this gift away!

As we close, remember, You’ve Got This with God’s help. Be strong, courageous and confident in God.

Prayer

Lord God, thank you for the gift of confidence. We often don’t think of it as a gift or don’t think about it at all. We judge ourselves against the standards of the world and see that we fall short of the world’s measures. You tell us not to do that and we apologize. Lord Jesus, please forgive us and help to always be confident in your word. Today we pray for us to remain strong, confident, and courageous. Amen.
