2:61 – Hypocrisy Is Real
#faithbites #faithjourney hypocrisy
I’m far from perfect. I’ve said thing I regret and made generalizations that are just plain wrong. When I scroll through social media and see good Christian people sharing memes and photos that are the exact opposite of “What Would Jesus Do?”. This is hypocrisy even if it’s not meant.
This is especially true in the world of politics and the intersection of politics and religion. I try not to judge but do get upset when I see things like this.
We say we are good Christians but then spread false news and hate as if we are sharing news and helping people become informed.
This isn’t everyone and it’s easy to hit like and share without seeing how others take it. It’s not a matter of being P.C. but being empathetic to all.
Scripture
- If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. – 1 John 4:20 (ESV)
- “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? – Luke 6:46
Reflection
“Lord, help me.”
“Sure, here is what you should do.”
“Nah, I’ll do my own thing, thanks anyways”.
Ok, that’s my paraphrase of Luke 6:46. We ask for guidance and love, but then share hurtful messages. Yes, we are sinners. Sure, we are forgiven when we ask for it. What we should do, is make hard changes. This may mean reconsidering political ideas, loyalties, and put it all back to Jesus. Back to Love God, Love People.
This isn’t easy but if we want to be more Christ-Like, it’s something we should do. As they say, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar
Charge
This is a simple and hard charge. Before you share that next meme or next “news story”, think about the impact it will have. Does it show love? Does it help others find Christ through you? If not, maybe it’s not worth sharing.
Prayer
Lord, help only truth to come out of our mouths. Let us use kind words of love of God to multiply rather than divide. Give us your wisdom to always treat each other as brothers and sisters and not as enemies. Thank you Lord. Amen
