4:356 – Where Will Your Next Mission Take You?

Setting

As 2021 is winding down, we think about the holiday season and what the future will bring. Sometimes we have a great idea of where God will lead us, other times, we feel like we are flying by the seat of our pants. As we think about the Christmas season, can you imagine what might have been going through Joseph’s or Mary’s head as they were heading to Bethlehem? They had to to get counted for the census, but she was pregnant, carrying our Saviour, and going on a long mission.

Today’s Questions: What are you thinking right now as you end 2021 and head into 2022? How do you know that your mission will be successful? Do you even know what your mission is?

Scripture
  • Luke 2:4-5 -So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight
  • Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Reflection

Joseph and Mary understood the scriptures and had faith in God. Even when they questioned him, they still knew he would set their paths straight, so they went on that mission which then continued a lifetime of faith with Jesus. For us, we may not have an Angel come down and say that we will carry the Savior or tell us to trust in the Lord. For us, it is based on faith. When we do believe, we see in Acts 1:8, that the Holy Spirit will come upon us. Not only will he make our paths straight, but we will be Jesus’ witnesses across all of the earth.

When I look at that verse it fills me with hope. God created us for a purpose. Jesus forgave us and reconnected us so that we can complete the mission. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to finish it.

As we close, you may not know what your next mission is or how 2022 will unfold. As always, trust in the Lord and he will make your path straight, your purpose clear, and remove obstacles in your way.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for giving us your Son, and for giving him Earthly parents that trusted you even though they may have been unsure of what would happen next. Lord, many of us are in pain, grieving, anxious, and just unsure of where our paths will lead us. We trust in you and know that you will give us the power and support to accomplish all things. Tonight, we pray that you strengthen us, and remind us that you will never leave us and will be with us until the end of the age. We pray this in your name, Amen.
