4:219 – I Am Not My Failures Or Shortcomings

#faithbites #faithjourney failures

Setting

im sitting on my couch in pain. I did too much today and think about all the things I haven’t yet done. I look at my weight and know I failed in my original #weightlossjourney. I’ve disappointws my friends, family, and my God.ovwr and over. I have more failures than I care to admit. BUT!!!!!

i am so much more than the sum of my failures. I am a loved, cherished, and blessed child of God. My friends say they love me, want me around, and am glad I do everything I do. I judge myself so much harder than anyone else. God doesn’t judge me on my failures as I am washed clean by Christ.

Today’s Questions: How do you pick yourself up when you feel your failures are mounting. What can you do to focus on the accomplishments you have done through Christ?

Scripture
  • Jeremiah 8:4 Jeremiah, say to the people, ‘This is what the Lord says: ‘When people fall down, don’t they get up again? When they discover they’re on the wrong road, don’t they turn back?
  • Proverbs 24:16The righteous may fall seven times but still get up, but the wicked will stumble into trouble.
  • Revelation 3:8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.
Reflection

I’m going to drop a bomb on you: You don’t have to be perfect! That’s right! God doesn’t expect perfection. In both Jeremiah and Proverbs we see that there is nothing wrong with failing down. We will and must get back up. Wall down the wrong street? Turn around and choose a new path. God is there inspire of our failures. Finally in Revelation, he says he knows we have little strength and yet, we are still in his book. We have a place with him, no matter our failures.

Our God is a loving, kind God. He doesn’t not boast or keep score, he doesn’t punish us, but forgives us as God is love. It is ok to fail. Our failures are only temporary are we are redeemed through Christ.

As we close, remember your failures do not define you. You are a blessed child of God no matter what. It’s time to let the past be the past and move into the future God wants for us.

Prayer

Lord God, we are hard on ourselves. We arrive for perfect to be like you and when we fail, we think you’ll think less of us. Please help is to measure ourself not by the world but by your wors. Remind us that you made us unique, loved, and you know our weakness and still love us.

Father God, we pray for peace and comfort, knowing that we have our identity in you and not in our failures. Amen.
