2:63 – Lord, Help Me Understand

Today, I look for answers and understanding. There is much to God’s plan that I don’t understand. I’m far from perfect, far from understanding Christianity, and light years from understanding our world.

I see lots of hate to people based on religion, skin color, sexual orientation, political bent, past actions, and more. Rationale, good people being consumed with hate. Even when facts are given, they still show this hate.

I don’t understand. If we love God and our neighbors, how is there room for hate? What could we accomplish if we debated issues and not personal traits of people? I just don’t get it

Scripture

• Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. – Romans 12:2
• Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything – 2 Timothy 2:7
• “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” – Jeremiah 33:3

Reflection

The Lord’s plan is unknowable. We can’t comprehend hi as he is beyond all human understanding. We can look to his word, repeatedly, for guidance. He does gives answers on his own time in own way.

For most of us, that’s super difficult. When we see so much anger and hate, it bothers us and we want his to answer now.

I know that he has a plan for all his children. It’s just waiting to see that which is hard. I also know to judge not. Sometimes, I think my place is to help people come closer to the Lord. That is a difficult job when hypocrisy is around, but when I see people open their eyes and open their hearts to the Lord, it brings immense satisfaction.

Charge

Be open to the Lord. When you speak, make sure that you are speaking truth and not from the world. The Lord is the way, the Truth, and the light. Remember that.

Prayer

Lord, please grant us all understanding of your plan. Help us to understand why there is so much hate in the world. Give us the tools to open hearts and minds to your way and your truth. Amen.
