September 23 – Phoning it In
266 – Phoning It In

#faithbites #faithjourney phoning

As a note we are under 100 days till the end of the year. We can do this.

Today was a day I just wanted to phone it in. For those of you not familiar with the term, it means to do something without all your effort. In other words, to half-ass something. Basically, doing the barw minimum possible

I personally hate feeling like that. For me, I want to be someone who gives 110% 110% of the time. (yes, I know 100% is Max). This is vicious cycle: On days when I am phoning it in, not only am  I not do my best, I feel guilty for not doing my best. Then why do it in the first place? The only answer I can think of is exhaustion.

Scripture
  • So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. – 1 Corinthians 10:31
  • Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, – Titus 2:7
Reflection

Until I looked up the scripture it didn’t click for me. When you don’t do 100%, you are not living up to the promises of God. We are created in his image and given his authrotiy to make disciples. We can do so many things, when we chose not to,  we aren’t giving God his Glory.

This in an of itself should make me not want to phone it in. But in some cases, it is still hard.

We need to think beyond ourselves and how it impacts others. What if you were on the receiving end of someone just phoning it in? Wouldn’t you be disappointed or upset? If you wouldn’t want it done to you, let’s not do it to others. Let’s give God all his Glory

Charge

When you are tired and down, are you thinking of phoning it in? If so, stop. Can the task be done by someone else who has the energy to do it? If so, give it to them. If not, can it be done later? Ask for the energy from God to be 100% into your task. He will answer.

Lord, grant me the strength and energy to give you Glory 100% in everything I do.
