September 3 – Are You A Gossip?
2:246 – Are You A Gossip?

#faithbites #faithjourney Gossip

Do you gossip about others? Lately, I have been doing more and more listening and less talking. I have seen people sharing stories about each other that may or may not be true. Spending time trying to out words in people’s mouths, thoughts to their actions, all while not even being there. This is gossip.

I’m not talking about complaining when someone does you wrong or is acting in a way unbecoming, if you were part of the story. We all need to vent.

Gossip may seem harmless but to the one who is being gossiped about, it can be harmful.

Scripture
  • For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.2 Corinthians 12:20
  • Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. – Ephesians 4:9
  • With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.Proverbs 11:9
Reflection

Destroying our neighbors. Unwholesome talk. The Lord finding us not as he wants us to be. This is all what gossip does to us. It breaks bonds and spreads half-truths.

The Lord wants us to be in communion with each other. To build each other up, rstther than year each other down.

I have spread my fair share of gossip. The juicier the rumor, the faster it spreads. We want to spread it as it makes us part of the story. But it is hurting someone.

Let’s spread kindness instead of Gossip.

Charge

Today’s charge is easy. Instead of spreading Gossip, spread kindness. Tell others about the good things someone has done. See how that spreads and how people react.

Prayer

Lord, you give us tongues to spread your word and love one another. Many times we use it to spread Gossip and lies. Be with us and help use our tongues to glorify you. In your name, Amen.
