Setting

I was having a meeting with my boss today and we talked about the stresses in our lives. I said how I need to pray more and they agreed. They also sent me a link to a Pastor who isn’t your typical pastor. She is tattooed, a common speaker, experienced, and in touch with how we are feeling. I normally don’t do this, but I ask you to read her blog for today, It’s 6A (https://thecorners.substack.com/p/its-6a). It shows her stress, her feelings, and her devotion to others. What is most interesting is at the end of the blog, she takes a Lutheran Prayer, “The Prayer of Good Courage” and it’s a remix and expands it for today.

It is extremely powerful to see that we are all experiencing loss, frustration, and tribulations. We all want to feel God’s call and to know how to answer it. God’s word never changes, but how we can appreciate it, learn it, and apply it to our current situations can.

Today’s Questions: When God calls his servants, how does he call you? What does having good courage mean to you? How do you draw on his faith to help you through your life?

Scripture
  • Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
  • 2 Peter 1:10-11 – Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
  • 1 Chronicles 28:2020 Then David continued, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the Lord is finished correctly.
Reflection

First and foremost, God called you before you were born. He had/has a plan for you and will never let you fail. He wants you to go out and preach (spread his word) to all the nations. But, he will never leave you alone or unprepared. He richly provides for you on your journey. His grace is sufficient for you as is his preparation. You just need to call out to him and ask for it. Your reward for faith is everlasting salvation in Christ.

It is scary to be called by God. Many of us, myself included, have imposter syndrome. We don’t think we are good enough, strong enough, or faithful enough to answer his call. As the blog says and we know, God has a way of picking the underdogs, the dredges of society to do his work. Jesus didn’t eat with saints, he selected commoners and those at the bottom of the pecking order. We are a royal priesthood through him and we can do it. God will never forsake us. All we have to do is ask for his strength, power, and protection and it will be given.

As we close, remember the messenger, a tattooed pastor, isn’t what matters. What matters is hearing that we are called and prepared for his plan. Sometimes a remix is just what we need to help it stick. There is no right way to hear God’s word. He called us and now we answer.,

Prayer

Father God, thank you for all of your servants. Let us be ready to answer your call. Give us the strength, direction, and power we need to do what you want us to do. Remove our fears and let us know your grace is sufficient for us. Help us to reach out and fulfill that plan of yours for us to be prophets to all nations, creating disciples in your name. Hear our prayers. Amen.
