4:198 – Taking Control Vs Giving It To God

Setting

Tomorrow I will start that diet. Tomorrow I will clean the house and get a better schedule. My health is important, I’m taking control of it. I will be the person who is ahead of the game.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve said these statements over and over again. I’ve tried to not let life take me but for me to take life by the horns. Is it hubris when we have been told by God to Be Still and know he is God? (Psalm 46:10). That his grace is sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9) and he has plans, not for harm? (Jeremiah 29:11)

Today’s Questions: Can you be still and do the work? How am I active during the waiting for the next thing? How do you know the balance between knowing God is in control and actively going after what you want?

• Isaiah 28:23 – Give ear and hear my voice, Listen and hear my words.
• Luke 11:28 – But He said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

Reflection

What does the voice of God sound like? Is it that feeling in your gut that you are doing something wrong? Maybe it’s that fire in your belly when you have passion for something. If that feeling isn’t there, maybe it isn’t what you should be doing.

Yesterday I read a Facebook story about someone saying they have never heard God or seen God but believe he is there. It was a conversation between a professor and a student. The student said he had never seen God. I see God all the time in his creations and the impact he has had on my life. Where struggle is seeing the future plans and what I should choose as hindsight is always 20/20

We can be active in our faith and listen to God. The key, and I’m working on it, is deep prayer and listening to God’s voice. When you reach out for those things you want, pray on it and reflect. Don’t forget the reflection part. If all we do is hear but not listen then we haven’t taken the message to heart. God wants you to succeed and have everything that you need for success in this life.

As we close, it’s not an either/or game. You can be active in your life and still give God control.

Prayer

Father God, today we pray for balance in our lives. Help us to be active in living AND know that you are in control. Let us reach for everything we need AND seek your guidance. Be with us as we embark on new challenges AND know that you are with us all along. We pray this in your name, Amen.
