July 1 – Are You Feeling A Little Wonky?
3:183 – Are You Feeling A Little Wonky?

#faithbites #faithjourney wonky

The word “Wonky” has been in my head last since last nice as in “I’m feeling a little wonky”. If you aren’t familiar with the term, it originates from England and as an adjective means unsteady, shaky, awry, wrong. If you want a funny story, you can read the Wonky Donkey, or a funny video of a a Scotish woman reading it.

So a long story short, wonky means just feeling of center. Maybe it’s my health, maybe it’s family, maybe it’s COVID-19, maybe it’s everything. But I’m a bit wonky. Are you?

When we are feeling wonky or otherwise of kilter, we can turn to Jesus for peace, calm, and healing.

Scripture
  • Matthew 11:28 – Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
  • John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
  • 1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Reflection

Jesus is our refuge. He tells us numerous times to seek him for rest. Sometimes feeling wonky is because we are going and doing too much. With good sabbath rest, we will be centered.

Maybe we are wonky because we are worried or troubled. Jesus tells us not to be afraid or troubled as he will give us peace unlike we will find in the world.

Maybe we are wonky because we have fallen into temptation and feel far from the Father. Know that there is no temptation that you are in that isn’t common to others. That doesn’t mean it’s good, rather it means that is has been forgiven by Christ before and will be forgiven again for you.

No matter why you are feeling wonky, you aren’t alone. You are loved, forgiven, and save. I don’t know why I’m off as it could be all of the above, but through Christ, prayer, and rest, I will be right as rain.

Challenge

They say the first step to solving a problem is understanding the problem. If you are feeling a bit wonky, try to think about what it bothering you. Is there something resting heavy on your heart? Maybe it’s just you need rest. Take some time to write it down. Then take it to your Father and he will answer.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for forgiving us no matter what. Father God, thank you for letting us know that no matter why we are feeling off, you are our refuge and our strength. You love us and with support us always. It’s not easy living in this world and it seems to be getting crazier each day. Most of us are scared to see what July brings in the 2020 year of chaos. We know that no matter what it is, you will love us, protect us, and comfort us no matter how off we feel. In your name, Amen.
