3:49 – Always Have Backup
#faithbites #faithjourney backup
Yesterday I stayed home sick and was preparing to stay home again today. I knew that I was facilitating an important training session tonight and didn’t know what I would do. I swallowed my pride and called in my backup. She said she was willing to do it if I couldn’t. This morning, I felt well enough to come in. Even though I didn’t need the backup, knowing that my colleague had my back, helped me to have the strength to carry on.
As a child of God, you always have a backup. I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of a better squad than you, Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit. You are never alone. All you need to do is call for backup, and they are there.
Scripture
- But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard. – Isaiah 52:12
- And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever — the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. – John 14:16-18
- We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. – 2 Corinthians 4:8-11
Reflection
God is before us. He is beside us. The Holy Spirit will not leave us as Orphans and will come to us. Jesus is in our mortal bodies. These are powerful statements. This can be summed up in Psalm 23:4 -“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
We have the best backup ever. They are here with us, around us, and through us. When we do something great, they are there even if we don’t know it.
I “phoned a friend” for backup. We too “phone a friend” through prayer. Even if God doesn’t seem to be picking up the line, he has and is listening. We need to listen to what he is saying back to us. He is with us for ever and always.
Knowing that I have a trio behind me, makes each step more manageable no matter how sick, tired, or stress I am.
Challenge
Are you going into battle without your backup? Make sure they are on the ready. Pray and realize that all good things come from the Lord. Without him, you face dismay. Take time to acknowledge the strength that comes with having God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit on your side.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for always having our back. You’ve sent your Son and the Holy Spirit to be part of the team to protect us. You have never let us down nor have you walked away from us. Help us to rely on the backup you provide. Remind us we don’t need to do it by ourselves, that you give us the strength to conquer all obstacles. We pray all of this in Jesus’s Name, Amen.
