July 27 – I Can Do It Myself
208 – I Can Do It Myself

#FaithBites #FaithJourney Myself

At Vacation Bible School the past week, I had the privilege of working with 20+ 4-year-olds. Yes, you read that right, over 20 4-year-olds. As the only male leader in our group, I had the ‘fun’ of constantly taking the little boys to the bathroom. Let me tell you, they have all kinds of stories about pee. What I specifically noticed was when they were washing their hands and reaching for the paper towel. It was one of those big black containers that had the lever you pulled for the towel to come out. Some of the kids were tall enough to reach, others jumped for it, still, others brought the step stools over, while others asked for help. They all wanted to “do it themselves” because that was being a big boy. I helped some, I let others try and then ask for help. To me, this was exactly what life is. We want to do it all ourselves, but sometimes, actually most of the time, we need help.

Scripture on Help
  • I can do all things through him who strengthens me. – Philippians 4:13
  • For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” – Isaiah 41:33
Reflection

Those little boys, trying to prove they are young men by getting the towels themselves, took more time to clean up. They tried to one-up each other to prove they were bigger, stronger, and more able than others. In life, we do that all the time. I tend to take on something that maybe I shouldn’t. We try to do everything “all by myself”. Many are leary to ask for help even if the task is outside our lane. Does this sound like you?

The truth is, God is there to strengthen us. He will help us in everything we do. When the boys asked for help, they knew I was there for them. I even had one little boy come up to me at the end of VBS and kiss me on the cheek and thank me. Another one came back and said Mr. Sol thank you for everything. This is what help and friendship looks like. You don’t have to be afraid to ask for it. The Lord freely gives it.

Charge

Is there something that is challenging you? Do you need help? Don’t hesitate to ask for help. The Lord has put people in place to help you through all challenges.

I am willing to ask for the Lord for help.
