2:334 – Never Miss A Teachable Moment

#faithbites #faithjourney teachable

Everyday we interact with people and have the opportunity to teach and grow. Today, my best friend met another friend. Later on at dinner, we were spe and talking about him being gay, what our church believes, how we love and treat people how Jesus wanted us to. We forgot my eldest was listening and she was completely along with the conversation. We told her everything and spoke in true terms. What our church believes, what we personally believe, and how no matter what God loves all his children.

This is one of the moments we could have asked her to leave, change the subject, or just let it drop. Instead, she knows the truth and can understand that we can talk about subjects that some say are taboo or hard to talk about. I cherish these teachable moments.

Scripture
  • Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. – Proverbs 9:9
  • Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6
  • But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. – Titus 2:1
Reflection

Focus on the family has a great article on teaching, not preaching. Everything can be teachable moment.

We have a duty to “train up” our children. We have the greatest teaching guide available, the Bible. What we need to do is take the time to apply the bible, the whole bible not just bits and pieces, to our situations.

It may be hard to teach, but if we don’t, then who will? I know my children are exposed to so many things, if I dont teach them how to apply God’s word, who will?

Challenge

Don’t shy away for hard subjects. Here’s the trick, if you talk about them often, then they do get easier for sure. You dont need a whole speech, just ask a question and let them go with it.

Prayer

Lord, we thank you in all situations. Sometimes it’s hard to talk about certain topics. Help us to use every moment to teach others about you and how to apply your word to a changing world. It’s not easy, but with your love and guidance, all things are possible. In your name, Amen.
