2:333 – No More Stuff

Today is Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year. I’ve always loved to get up early and shop. This years feels different.

My wife asked me what I wanted for Chridtmas this year and I didn’t have many ideas. Not that I’m hiding what I want, I just dont need much. This is also the first year, thanks to Dsave Ramsey, that we can get and give wh as t we want. We’ve budgeted well and can do it. It’s a great feeling, but it’s just stuff. I’m shocked by how much stuff my kids have already and then everyone is going to give them more. I. don’t want them to not have things, but wow its hard to say no when you didn’t have growing up.

No matter how much such stuff you get, you won’t fill that nagging in your heart. That is your Godhole and can only be filled by him.

Scripture

• Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Hebrews 13:5
• Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. – Luke 12:33-34

Reflection

Money and having nice things aren’t bad. All things are from God and we are his stewards. He wants us to live well in him. We should give, save, and spend. We just need to do it in the right order.

All this stuff we have will break, rot, and be gone. The memories we share, the love we give, and the spirit we have is eternal.

Don’t feel bad about buying a few nice things. Just dont go into debt over it. This holiday season no amount of stuff will tmake up for you not living life and being there.

I need to make more time with my family rather than buying or doing stuff for them.

Challenge

Focus not on stuff but on living. What experiences can you give your loved ones? Share your love of Christ with themHis love is eternal and will outlast that game they play for 10 minutes.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for blessing us. You have made us rich in money, spirit, and opportunity. Help us to realize that gifts aren’t as important as the experiences wrapped around them. Let us focus more on living with and speaking life to each others as you did, Jesus. You are the example

Stuff doesn’t open the gates of Heaven. Your love and believe in you does. In your name, Amen.
