August 24 – Memories Are Powerful
2:236 – Memories Are Powerful

#faithbites #faithjourney memories

Today, I began downloading all of our Disney Pictures from the Disney Memory Maker. They had taken nearly 750 pictures of our trip. As I looked through them. I remember most of them, but others were “new” to me. At the same time, seeing these pictures brought back fun memories that I know will last forever.

Pictures are interesting. Sometimes they match our memories exactly, other times, it seems as if we weren’t there. Still, other times they help us redirect our lives to live as we were and get back on the right track.

Memories help us to know where we have been and we can use that to look to the future. As they say, those who don’t learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

Scripture
  • ‘Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem to you like nothing in comparison? – Haggai 2:3
  • For he will never be shaken; The righteous will be remembered forever. – Psalm 112:6
  • And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!” – Luke 23:42
Reflection

God never changes (Hebrews 13:8) nor does his word. But like all things, our memory fades and change over time. Just like the Temple of the past, we may think we remember His Word, but we need to look at it now and forever. We not only will be refreshed but our understanding will be stronger each time we read it. I can read a passage over and over and learn something different each time. That is how you make a memory and keep it strong in your mind.

As we remember God’s word, Jesus will never forget us. There is a place for us in Heaven and we will be remembered. As we remember God through his Word and how we try to emulate him, he will always remember us. God doesn’t need us to remember him, but we need to remember him. That act provides guidance, power, and ultimately salvation.

I sure as heck don’t remember everything we did during our trip. I have vague recollections, but looking at the pictures puts me right back there in the hot Orlando sun. Picking up His Word, will put you back on the right path.

Charge

Strengthen your memory. Pick up the Bible. Make it part of your daily routine. If it’s following a plan or googling scripture and then reading more. However you do it, immersing yourself in the word, will make that memory stronger and His words will be on your heart when you need them.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for the experiences and memories that we all have. We know our memories are short and fragile. Help us to never forget you or your word. Give us the determination, to set up a routine of diving into your word. Let it speak to us and direct us as you would have it. In your Holy Name, Amen.
