2:180 – Be Fearless Like Mary Ann
#faithbites #faithjourney fearless
Saturday. 90+ degrees. No time or place better to share God’s love. Today was the last Saturday and my first time helping with Sidewalk Sunday School. It’s an outreach mission for our church to go into the neighborhood and share the love of Christ.
One of the leaders, Mary Ann, showed fearlessness like I have never seen before. She grabbed a large bell, a few volunteers and kids and marched through the housing development trying to get kids to come out of their homes and join us for food, fellowship, and Christ. There was no fear and she rang the big bell. No fear when she opened up the screen door and knocked on many doors. Not a trace of fear where someone said no or what are you doing. She was on a mission to do whatever it took to get the kids to come.
I was in awe of her fearlessness. I’m not sure if I would have done that so easily. Imagine if we all approached life with that gusto.
Scripture
- For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:7
- Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. – Psalm 27:3
- I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. – Psalm 34:4
Reflection
Our God is amazing, awesome, and strong. He wouldn’t give us a challenge we couldn’t overcome. The Lord have us a spirit of power and love to overcome any army or any fear we may have.
If this is true, then why do we fear so much? I think it is because we listen to the world. We aren’t strong enough, fast enough, smart enough, brave enough, or a hundred other things. If we trust in the Lord and this is his mission for us, then we should have no fear.
But when we do fear, let’s not sit on it. Let’s turn it over to God and ask him to make us fearless like Mary Ann.
You never know who’s live you may impact by taking the job and using the skills God has given you to do the job.
Charge
Are you fearless? Are you willing to take risks? Does it scare you to go outside your comfort zone? Maybe that is where God wants you to go. Pray to him, as him for his strength. He will make you strong and courageous. (Deuteronomy 31:6).
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your servants who are willing to do your work in the neighborhood. Let us all be like Mary Ann and be fearless in your service. Help us to all be strong and courageous. We know it’s not easy to go outside our comfort zone but give us your strength and love to accomplish everything you have planned for us. In your name, Amen.
