June 28 – A Hit Or A Flop?
2:179 – A Hit Or A Flop?

#faithbites #faithjourney hit #BohemianRapsody

Tonight my wife and I watched Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen Biopic. I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. One thing I didn’t know, among many, was the struggle the band went through to get Boh moan Rhapsody on the radio. The record label thought it was garbage and no one would listen to it. The band, Freddie on particular, knew it was a hit and kept on trying to get it out there. He did and the rest is history.

Our relationship with Jesus is similar. We share his word and his love with everyone around us. Many tell us it’s lies. They tell us we need to be strong in ourselves and we make our own destinies without any help. But we know. We understand that God’s word is true, he loves us, and no matter what, we will stick to it.

Scripture
  • My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.Ezekiel 13:9
  • Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1
  • Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.Matthew 7:15
Reflection

All three of our scriptures point to one truth: There are false prophets. People who will steer you away from the Lord. Some of them are easy to notice. They lie, cheat, and steal (John 10:10). But others are much harder to see. They don’t quote scripture or even try to get you not to believe in God. They tell you their idea is better and to trust yourself only. They slowly try to sow a seed in you that your ideas will flop. That God is there but you need to do this in your own. Once that seed is planted, it’s hard to uproot it.

When we hear these things, we have two main resources to know we have a hit and not a flop. First is the Word of God. We need to go to it, learn it, and practice it. When we don’t understand or when we need more help or confidence, we go straight to the source: God. Through prayer, he will show us that he is on our side and we have it right.

Let’s not get hung up on what the world things will be a hit or a flop, but what God tells us.

Charge

Is the world having you wrestle with God? Are you doubting his love or teachings? Wrestling is good. It helps us gain a better understanding of His Word and Love. Rest assured, when you go to him in prayer, he will answer.

Prayer

Dear Lord, we are often told by the world that we are wrong to follow you or your word is not true. We are told that we can do everything on our own. That we are not broken or sinful but if we work hard enough we can make it big. Help us to know that your word is true. Remind us that you are the creator of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. You have said we can do all things in you. Give is your peace and strength when we wrestle with the world. Always be the lamp to our path to bring us back to you. In your name, Amen
