Tonight was my youngest’s graduation from preschool. It was a great chance to see how they’ve progressed over the past two years. We are very grateful for Mrs. Trachsel. During the graduation they sang a song from Veggie Tales called “I am a Promise“. The opening lyrics are below

I am a promise
I am a possibility
I am a promise
With a capital P
I am a great big bundle of potentiality
And I am learning to hear God’s voice
And I am trying to make the right choices
I’m a promise to be anything He wants me to be

This made me think about what these kids will do in the world. At the same time, I thought about all of us. While we are still breathing, we are a promise, we are a possibility.

God has a plan for all of us. It doesn’t matter of we are 1 or 100. We have to listen to God’s voice, make the right choice, and be everything he wants us to be.

Reflection

God has made us as his masterpiece. Masterpieces are the epitomy of a life’s work. They all have a great purpose, just as we do. We are born with a Lord who loves us, possibility and promise for great plans, and destruction erased by Christ. As it says in the Proverbs verse, we just need the insight to draw them out.

Maybe it’s a children’s song. Perhaps it’s reading the Bible or going to church. It could be deep meditation or prayer. Whatever it is, it’s God’s voice reminding you that no matter how old or young you are, you are a promise and a possibility.

Charge

Do you believe that God’s Word is True? If so, then believe that you have a unique purpose in this world. You are never too old to realize it. Just as the children’s song says, try to listen to his voice and make good choices. Take a few minutes, just you and God, and listen. He will answer.

Prayer

Heavenly Lord, thank you for educators like Mrs. Trachsel. Their dedication, commitment, and love go beyond any job description. You tell us over and over that you have plans for us. Remind us, that it is never too late to become what you want us to be. Give us strength to take that action and that possibility and turn it towards you. Help us in all these transitions as we become what we are meant to be. In your name, Amen.
