2:123 – Conjunction Junction What’s Your Function?
#faithbites #faithjourney function
As I’m getting older, I’m am wondering more and more what my mark on the world is going to be. When I’ve gone to the Lord, will anyone remember me and will there be anything I built that will survive?
I see friends who have gone onto save lives, political success, authors, builders, and makers. Tonight, at our school’s auction, I saw the talents of so many people from painting to creating new from the old to sewing to crafting and I was impressed. I’ll all thumbs in that department. I know that God gives us all different talents, I just want to know what my function is.
Scripture
- And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25
- For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them. – Matthew 18:20
- What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up. – 1 Corinthians 14:26
Reflection
You may be wondering what these verses have to do with function or the title of this #faithbite. First, let’s look at the definition of conjunction: 1) a word used to connect clauses or sentences or to coordinate words in the same clause or 2) the action or an instance of two or more events or things occurring at the same point in time or space. Clear as mud right?
I think that my purpose in life is to be a conjunction. It’s to bring two or more people together to help them achieve what God has intended. My dad once said I will never be an Olympic athlete, but I could coach a champion. This doesn’t mean I can’t try different things but my purpose is to share, connect people, and help them achieve their purpose. No wonder I wanted to be a teacher, a counselor, and maybe a pastor or preacher.
Now, if we go back to the scriptures, we see they are all Bout unity, coming together, and helping each other. Sounds like a perfect place for a conjunction.
Charge
Are you a Conjunction? Are you still looking for your function? Maybe you have found it but look to others for validation against their gifts, rather than against your gifts. Look at your life as a whole. If you are outside for a minute or two, you may see what your calling or true function is.
Prayer
Almighty God, thank you for the gifts you give us. For those of us struggling to figure out our function, help us look not at the accomplishment of others but at our lives. Give us the direction to see what you want us to be. Give us the energy and determination to follow that function. In your name, Amen.
