March 24 – I Think I’ll Make a Snappy New Day

2:83 – I Think I’ll Make a Snappy New Day

#faithbites #faithjourney snappy

Sing with me everyone:

It’s such a good feeling
To know you’re alive
It’s such a happy feeling
You’re growing inside
And when you wake up ready to say
“I’ll make a snappy new day.”

It’s such a good feeling
A very good feeling
The feeling you know
That I’ll be back when the day is new
And I’ll have more ideas for you
And you’ll have things you’ll want to talk about
I will, too

Ok, Mr. Roger’s is just plain awesome. So sweet, kind, direct, and loving. The past couple of days, my youngest and I were watching Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. It’s a cartoon based on the fantasy world of Mr. Rogers. It has some of the songs, the characters, and all the feels.

The line “I’ll make a snappy new day” has been stuck with me. I’ve replaced it with happy, but both works. It’s a line that tells us that today is a new day. We can make it what we want. Our past is our past. Gone. But today, is a new day. It’s a gift from God to make it how ever we want. Why not give up the bad, and truly make it a snappy / happy new day?

Scripture
  • And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. – Genesis 1:3-5
  • The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. – Lamentations 3:22-23
  • So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16
Reflection

We can go all the way back to the beginning and see that a new day is good. God created the light and say it was good. That light was the first day. We are given a gift of each day from God. We also see that no matter how the world treats us or what’s going on with our bodies (“wasting away”), we get stronger through our faith being renewed daily. That the Lord loves us and every day we are renewed with his love, mercy, and grace.

There isn’t much I can add to that. We have the opportunity to embrace the Lord each day. To take his love and let it wash over us. To accept his forgiveness, mercy, and grace. We can make the day, whatever we want. It’s up to us on how we take this new opportunity.

I woke tired from my little one being in my bed and my wife being sick. I can focus on the negative, but I choose to focus on the positive. Doughnut outing with my little one, wonderful church service, answers from the doctor to help my wife feel better, lunch with my kids, nieces, and sister-in-law, and just a good day.

So thank you Mr. Rogers, for reminding us to make it a snappy new day.

Charge

Are you burdened? Are you down and reflecting on the negative. Remember, tomorrow is a fresh, new day given by god. Take all the gifts he gives and turn it into a great new day. Not accepting forgiveness and his grace is hard, turning everything over, that’s hard. But that hard task gives way to wonderful love, mercy, and opportunities.

Prayer

Gracious Father, thank you for giving us each new day. You give us your mercy, grace, and love. We may not always follow the law, but through you son we are forgiven. The sun rises, as does a fresh round of your love and forgiveness. Let us always remember the words of Mr. Rogers, and make it a snappy new day. In your name, Amen.
