2:71 – Does Telling the Same Story Again Get Boring?
#faithbites #faithjourney story
Most of us like to hear a good story. Some like me, like to tell a good story. When you are on crutches or have an injury, you get asked the same questions, over and over again. How did it happen? What does it feel like? What does your recovery look like? Sometimes, once in a blue moon, you get asked if you need anything. While it may seem boring to tell the same story over and over again, both you and the listener can learn something new.
Yesterday, I went to a meeting and one of my students asked about the knee. She asked about the surgery, the movement of the knee, and apologized for asking about it. I told her not to worry about it and I liked sharing. It was cool because they are in the musculoskeletal class and it was perfect timing. I learned from her, she learned from me, even though it was the same story.
Scripture
- And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son – 1 John 5:11
- But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been” – Mark 5:19
- Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually serve to advance the gospel. – Philippians 1:12
Reflection
The Gospel, means the good news. News is meant to be shared. We share stories to learn, to share experiences, to be closer to each other, and to build relationships. Sharing the Good News, is the same thing. We don’t have to share word for word scripture but when we share how the Lord has worked in our lives, people listen. It makes an impact.
Going back to the start of this #faithbite, it doesn’t get boring to share the same story as long as there is a willing listener there. It could be the same person who is listening and maybe they get something new out of it. Just like reading the Bible over and over again, each time, you pull something else out of it.
So let’s keep sharing our stories about life, the Lord, and each other. We can all grow in our #faithjourney and our lives.
Charge
Do you get frustrated when you have to repeat the same story to the same people? Maybe they want to learn more, maybe it’s God showing you that you have more to learn from your story. Try to think of sharing God’s word and your story as a way to grow closer to Christ.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for the experiences we have. Thank you for your Word. Help us to share our stories in ways that reach new and old people. Remind us that while the story may be old to us, it is new to someone else. Help us to remember that our old stories can also bring up new learning in ourselves. In your awesome name, Amen.
