3:114 – Work Can Wait

#faithbites #faithjourney wait

Right now, I’m snuggling in bed with my youngest as she’s watching videos on TV. Do we have homework to do? Yes. Do I have work to do? Is laundry waiting for me? Yes. But right now, she needs me. The rest can wait.

I know that I’m speaking from a place of privledge in that I have a flexible job. I realize that. This in no way speaks ill of those who can’t.

But sometimes we just need to focus on what’s important. Time with the Lord and time with our family.

How do you prioritize?

Scripture
  • Matthew 6:33 – But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
  • 1 Timothy 5:8 – But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Reflection

God first, then family, then work, then other things. We know that we need to seek God first and foremost and we will be provided for. In 1 Timothy, it tells us that we need to provide for our family. It doesn’t say we need to give them mansions and everything they want. Sometimes, spending time with them is what they truly need. A hug, a shoulder, or just being present can be the best way to provide for someone.

While we can’t not do work, we can make choices to make sure all of our family’s needs are taken care of.

Ok, back to spending time with my family and then some work later.

I pray God helps you in prioritizing your work and life.

Challenge

Have you made time to take care of your family? Truly take care of them, not just financially? Find ways to make sure you aren’t putting work ahead of family and God.

Prayer

God, help us to chase after you and not work. Help us to chase after our families and not work or money. It’s easy to have messed up priorities. Help is focus on what is right. You have said you will take care of your people. Help us always to follow your will and your way. In your name, Amen.
