4:362 – Keep On Fighting The Good Fight

#faithbites #faithjourney fight

Setting

Today I spent a good chunk of the afternoon trying to appeal a denial from insurance for a specialist visit. It’s disheartening but I’m not giving up. Many of my friends told me to keep on fighting the good fight. It doesn’t matter if you say just keep swimming or never give up, or keep on fighting, the fact remains the same. You are going up against a force greater than you in hopes of having a favorable outcome. The second fact, we can’t do it alone. We need God on our side.

Today’s Questions: How do you call upon God for strength? How do you know when it’s time not to fight but to change course?

Scripture
  • Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
  • Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
  • Exodus 33:14 My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.
  • Luke 12:25-26 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[a]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
Reflection

From the song, “My Lighthouse’, In my wrestling, in my doubts In my failures, You won’t walk out Your great love will lead me through You are the peace in my troubled sea”. God calms the seas, he brings health, healing, and love. God brings love because he is love. There is nothing we can’t do without God.

Sure, there are times when I want to let a string of expletives out of my mouth (and sometimes I do. I’m sorry for that). But it doesn’t help. It doesn’t give me lasting strength. When I turn it to God and ask him, he answers. It may not be what I want him to answer or how I want it answered, but he does. He is the peace in my troubled sea.

As we close, remember that if you are fighting the good fight with God on your side, you are winning.

Prayer

Lord God, thank you for always fighting for us and with us. Thank you for your strength and support. Lord, tonight we pray that you help us all continue the fight. Help us to be strong and courageous. Help us to always come to you when it gets tough. We pray this in your name, Amen.
