4:295 – Your Value To God Never Decreases

Setting
Have you ever scrounged for change and found the nasty pennies in your car? You think that you might not need them, but you do. You use them and they are still worth the same as the shiny new pennies. We are like that. Often we think we are the gross pennies with no value. We aren’t shiny. We’re scratched up, gunk-filled, and in the crevices of life. But we have the same value to God as we did when we were shiny and new. As a Christian, I believe that God only sees us like the shiny new penny because we are made clean by Christ.
Throughout the Bible, God used the broken, the outcasts, and people who were considered dirty. He had a place for all of them. Our God values every single one of us. It’s up to us to not let the grime of life, which has been washed away. cloud out judgment. God loves us no matter what!
Today’s Questions: How do you value yourself? How do you think God values you? What do you do, when you feel like a dirty penny?
Scripture:
- Romans 5:8 – But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- 1 John 1:9 -If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- Jeremiah 18:4 – And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do.
Reflection
First, we will look at our new testament verses. God loves us even though we were sinners. He sent Jesus to die for us so we could be forgiven, clean, and closer to his righteousness. We didn’t do anything to deserve or earn his forgiveness. God gave it to us. He did that because, just like the dirty penny, he knows the value that it has inside. It can be used to fulfill his plan. In Jeremiah, we see how God takes the broken pieces of clay and reworks it into a piece of art.
How many times have you thought you hit rock bottom, but then something changed? Things started to get better and you couldn’t put your finger on it? That was God. Through Christ, he took you, cleaned you up, and gave you a new purpose. The best news is this isn’t a one and done cleaning. We get a fresh start every day. God’s grace is sufficient for us and his forgiveness never ends.
As we close, remember the next time that you are going to through away that dirty penny, it has value. Just like you do. No matter what you do, you never lose your value to God. You are loved, forgiven, and valuable.
Prayer
Lord God. Father, thank you. There are times when we feel dirty, disgusting, and worthless. You tell us over and over that, you love us and have plans for us. We pray that you help us see the shiny soul that you gave us even when we make bad choices. Help us to become clean in your sight, forgive us our sins, and help us to follow you in all that we do. We love you and give you all the glory. Amen.
