4:268 – Doing Right, When Others Do Wrong

Setting

As members of a society we have rules to keep us safe so we can live in peace. We can’t choose what rules to obey and not. If a rule is unjust, we m8ist work to change it. Todat at a volleyball tournament, all of our players, coaches, and spectators were obeying the mask rules. Most of the kther teams were wearkng masks wrong and one team, including their spectators, weren’t wearing them at all. I had players who said why aren’t they following the rules. One perspn said if they aren’t, why should we as it gives them an athletic advantage. Regardless if you believe that masks work, they do, shouldn’t everyone be under the same rules?

This is but a small example. No matter what happens, our faith tells us to obey Gods word and our governing authorities. We don’t get to pick and choose. As parents and role models we must set the example, even when it’s hard.

Today’s Questions: What do you do when you dont agree with a law or rule? What does your faith tell you about following rules?

• James 4:17 – So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
• Romans 13:1 – Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
• Romans 3:31 – Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law

Reflection

Not obeying our authorities is a sin and we must not do it. We can work in the system to chanfe thungs that are unjust. Romans evwn says that our faith doesnt overthrow the law and we uphold it. We do this, not becuase we will be rewarded, but because it is right and following God’s law. Sinning and going against God’s law is easy. We work hard to obey and when we stumble, we ask for forgiveness.

As we close, remember two things. We are not above the law but bound by it. Second, we set the example even when no one is watching. Others are looking to us for guidance. Stay strong, be kind, set the example, and obey God’s Word.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, tonight we pray for calm hearts. Its so easy to get angry with people who pick and chose what laws they follow. Help us yo stay strong theough obeying your word and not become upset or angry with others. Help us to do good no mattwe who is watching as we want to honor you. In your name, Amen.
