Setting

Happy last day of the year. I will keep this short as you may be enjoying your New Year’s Eve festivities. Even though they are different than before, I pray you are well and enjoy yourself. As we look to 2021, let’s not focus on a ton of resolutions that we may toss to the side by February. Instead, just focus on love. Let us love each other, love our God, and do what we can to share love.

Tonight was fun with my brother and sister-in-law and my nieces. While we were having fun, I was focusing on all the stuff I needed to do rather than just being in the moment and showing love. Imagine if we just focused on that. I know I’m naive at times, but if the greatest of these is love, it should be our focus.

What are you taking into 2021?

Scripture
  • 1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love
  • 1 Corinthians 13:13 – And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Reflection

The bible doesn’t say that God is accomplishment. It doesn’t say that the greatest of these is self-interest. It surely doesn’t say that money is what we should be after. It says God is love and we should love one another. God also doesn’t say to love those that think like us, act like us, or even like us. Just to love unconditionally. That’s it.

I don’t know what else to say. As you close out this year and begin a new one, remember, love first and last. God is love.

I wish you blessings on your 2021. Stay tuned tomorrow for an idea of what #Faithbites 2021 may entail.

Challenge

Forgo the list of resolutions. Focus on the one thing that we can always count on: Jesus. And Jesus is love!

Prayer

Father God, as we say goodbye to one year and hello to the next, we ask for you to heal our hearts. While there has been some good moments, 2020 has been a rough if not tragic year for many. Some of us have let our hearts grow cold and turned inward. You want us to make disciples. You want us to love. We need your healing touch and your presence in our lives. We humbly ask for your help as we jump into 2021. Help us to live as you showed us how to live through your Son. We love you and pray all of these things in your name, Amen.
