Nov 14 – What Is The Truth?
3:319 – What Is The Truth?

#faithbutes #faithjourney truth

Setting

In today’s mass information society when we are bombarded with facts, alt facts, and fake news, it’s hard to know what truth is. I could say that the Earth is flat and have millions agree with me. You could say that the moon landing was fake and people would agree with you. Just look at the election coverage and you have your answer.

As a Christian there is one main truth: Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he died for my sins. We learn about this and many others from the Bible which is the inspired word of God. We need to lean on God and less on our own understanding.

Scripture
  • James 1:18 – He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
  • John 1:14 – The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
  • 2 Timothy 3:16 – All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness
Reflection

I don’t know about you, but I’m often confused on what is true and what isn’t. God gave us an instruction manual. He told us his word is true and it is useful for teaching. Some would say what about the things that aren’t in the bible? How does a two to five thousand year old book apply today?

God made us each unique with talents to handle whatever the world threw at us. He gave us the Bible to help us apply our talents towards truth.

I hope I don’t lose you here, but I have always believed in the power of science. Science can help us understand the universe. For me, I believe God created science so we can understand him and his creations better. If we have this is common, why wouldn’t we apply logic and science to the falseness that is out in the world? Truth is truth because God said it is.

As you search for truth in the news, remember two things. First, God is truth and second, he gave us skills and abilities to help us understand the world and make sense of it. But, we don’t lean just on our own understanding but on Jesus Christ.

Challenge

Seek truth! That’s it. Look beyond your own desire, beyond what others tell you. Use your gifts, lean on the gifts God has given others. He will lead you to the truth.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for being the one point of ultimate truth. Help us navigate false witnesses and false news. Remind us of the skills and abilities you have given us. Let us take strength in that, knowing you’ve built us to succeed.

Lord, we turn to you, first and foremost for truth. We pray all these things in your name, Amen.
