3:287 – Temptation is Great, God is Greater
#faithbites #faithjourney temptation
Setting
Today, I was searching for inspiration and searched for a Bible verse of the day. It landed on 1 Corinthians 10:13, which is about great temptation and God’s ability to give us solutions.
I don’t know about you, but I’m far from perfect. I mess up daily and am tempted every day to do things I know are wrong. Some are little things and others are huge. Most of the time I resist, but as a broken sinner, I falter. Then I ask for forgiveness.
When you are tempted, how do you feel? Do you feel alone? Maybe you feel that no one else has ever gone through this before. Know that God is in your side and will provide a solution.
Scripture
1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
Reflection
Our temptations seem to be all powerful and overwhelming..I’ve thought that no one in the history of humanity has gone through this before. The truth, straight from God’s word,is yes, others have experienced this. The situation may be slightly different, but the temptation is the same.
The second truth is God is faithful. He will not let you down and will provide a way out. That way could be Jesus’s forgiveness when you fall to temptation or may take the form of an entirely new set of choices. Who knows, we just need to be faithful and listen. He will get you out of this mess.
Yes, I’m tempted every day and think how easy it would be to slide into it. Some days I win the battles others I lose. I know that through my faith and God’s promises, I will win the war.
Challenge
Think about the temptations you are experiencing now. How are you managing them? Have you asked for answers? Try to call out your temptations. Writing them down or speaking them out loud can take their power away. Turn them to God.
Prayer
God, help us with temptation. Sometimes we feel there is no way around it and it is all consuming. Help us see that you will always open a door or offer a solution to our temptations and problems. And Lord, forgive us when we fail. Life is hard and we will mess up. We know you sent Jesus to make us clean in your sight. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts to our eternal souls that we can be made pure. Let us always look to you no matter what. In your name, Amen.
