3:227 – Hello, Friend

#faithbites #faithjourney hello

Setting

I knew I wanted to write about friendship today but was coming up empty. I’m a little emotionally drained as it’s been a long week. Today was also the last day that my best friend would be staying with us and help nanny our kids. It’s going to stink without him as it has been a great, albeit weird, summer with him. We’ve been friends for 25 years, so it will be a loss. As we said, he’s not dead, but it will be different than seeing each other every day.

Anywhoo, I was still coming up blank. So I googled the scripture of the day and came up with Revelation 3:20. What strikes me about this verse, even though I’m taking it out of context, you never know where you will find a friend. It may be at school, at the store, in church, or just walking down the street.

So without further ado…

Scripture
  • Revelation 3:20 – “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends
Reflection

Today’s reflection is very simple. Do you hear the knock at the door? Are you going to open it up to a new friendship? My best friend was the second person I met when I started college, 25 years ago. And if you ask him, I annoyed the crud out of him. I said hello and was a bubbly annoying social butterfly. But 25 years later, he is like a brother to me and an uncle to my kids.

We never know who God is putting into our lives. We pray daily and ask God to answer our prayers. Sometimes it’s very clear, other times, we don’t know how he’s answering. You never know if that person who you just crossed paths with is God’s way of answering your prayers.

I know it with my best friend, it was. He has helped me so much over the years, even though we are very different. We have a crazy relationship that’s beyond description. We joke that we are Hetero Life Mates 🙂

So when the door knocks, will you answer it? I have and can’t wait to open the next one.

Challenge

Do you ever wonder how God answers your prayers? If you look at your friends today, did you ever imagine that they would be your friend? Was it a strange meeting or situation? Maybe that was God answering your prayers. Take a moment to thank God for that. Then, next time there is knock, open it and say Hello, you never know how that relationship will change your life.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for answering my prayers by sending Ducky to me. We are blessed with having him in our lives. Bless him as he starts a new job and a new school year.

Lord, help us to answer the door when you send people to us. Let us greet them with a warm hello and share a meal. We are always in awe about how you answer our prayers but we should never doubt. We pray that you will continue to put those people in our lives who you know we need. Let us welcome them and be blessed by them and a blessing to them. Thank you, Lord, for our friends. In your name, Amen.
