Setting

Today was my wife’s cousin’s wedding. A beautiful ceremony joining to people together in love in front of their family, friends, and God. I wish them all the happiness in the world.

One of their readings was 1 Corinthians which shows us the qualities of love. One that stuck home with me today was “Love Perseveres”.

To persevere means to “continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success”. Why would we want to do something with little or no prospect of success. Because it is worth it. It is worth it to love and be loved. Jesus loved us and we love him back. But are we persevering?

Scripture

• 1 Corinthians 13:4-10 – Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,it is not easily angered,it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies,they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes,what is in part disappears.
• Galatians 6:9 – And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Reflection

Love is all of these things and more. We are told not to give up. Now if we look back at our faith in Christ, to those who don’t believe it looks crazy. A man born from God who never sinned who died and was raised from the dead. It sounds like science fiction. But we persevere in faith even though people think it’s a fools errand with little or no chance.

Many even question marriage with it’s high divorce rate. Why enter it I’d there is little or no chance for success. But we do it no matter because of love.

Let us remember the love Abbey and Daniel are showing today and the love of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Abbey and Daniel will persevere in their marriage just as we do in our faith.

Challenge

Never give up. Keep going. Remember that perseverance isn’t easy. The world will tell us we are fools for keep trying. But never give up. Have Faith.

Prayer

Father God, bless Abbey and Daniel. Guide them, love them, and protect them until they day they meet you.

Lord, help us all to persevere. No matter how bleak the outcome looks, no matter what the world may say, let us have faith in you and never give up.in your name, Amen.
