3:80 – Into the Unkown
#faithbites #faithjourney #COVID19 Unknown
We are marching Into the Unknown. (And No, I’m not talking about Elsa’s big number in Frozen 2). In Illinois, as of 2 P.M. tomorrow, we go into “shelter in place”. That means most businesses are closed. Essentials are open. This is unheard of for most in the United States. In the US, we are used to unadulterated freedom, but this changes tomorrow for the better of our community.
We can be afraid, worried, angry, concerned, and a whole mix of emotions. We can have faith at the same time, knowing that we are loved, saved, and forgiven. The key is to remember we have a purpose on this earth. As we all go into the unknown, we can do it together, and look our for one another.
Scripture
- Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10
- Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:31-33
- I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Psalm 32:8
Reflection
God is with us, strengthening us, instructing us, upholding us, and counseling us. He tells us not to worry about where we are going, how we will eat, what we should wear, or anything. He will provide for us. We need to trust his plan for us.
Sure, this is easier said than done. But that’s the basis of faith, right? Faith is defined as “complete trust or confidence in someone or something”. During this time of unknown and of worry, we turn to our Lord. He will bring us answers, deliverance, and help us move forward.
Let’s focus on what we can control. We can control what we believe and how we act. We can use our time, treasure, and talents to help others. This is a scary time, but with God on our side, whom shall we fear?
Challenge
It is ok to wonder about the unknown. Take those worries and fears and share them with God. He will give you peace. Take that nervous energy and turn it into practical actions to help someone. Not only will you feel better, but others will see the light of Christ through you.
Prayer
Heavenly father, please hear our prayers. We are barreling into the unknown here. We don’t know when we can worship together, work together, or even be in the same space as each other. Starting tomorrow, many of us will be further “sheltered in place”. This is scary for many of your people. Give us your strength, your patience, and your grace. We seek this. Send us in whatever way possible to help one another. Our path may not be clear, but through you, we can help others see clearly.
