3:25 – Facts Are Important

#faithbites #faithjourney facts

I love debating with people. I find it an intellectual activity that keeps my mind sharp. In high school, I did Lincoln-Douglas and parlimentary debate. It wasn’t personal but about research (and we didn’t have google) and proving your point.

Today, debate is mostly about emotion and alt facts. Even what people believe is fact isn’t. We need to research the source and then debate. Today, debste is often two people looking at an apple with one saying its and orsnge and the other saying it’s an airplane.

Just like when I research for my degree, I look for valid sources. We should do the same when ww talk about iur faith.

Scripture
  • Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. – 2 Peter 1:20-21
  • Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. – John 17:17
Reflection

Scripture isn’t made by men. The power of scripture isnt from our interpretations. It is truth from God. When we start to warp it and twist it, it loses the power of God and becomes man’s word. It is difficult at times to understand the word without interpreting.

This doesnt mean that we can’t have someone explain it to us. Explanation is helping understand, interpreting is changing the meaning.

When you are talking to people about life or faith, stick with the facts. There is power in it. If you are you are sharing your opinion, be clear, that you what you are saying is opinion.

Challenge

Stick to the facts. Use the source. If you want to say how what it means to you, great. But the facts are facts.

Prayer

Lord, helpnus in this era of alternate facts and fake news. Help us stick to your word and your word alone. Let us not interpret scripturw but share our story with our words. You give us the worda to share you and talk with the facts. In your name, Amen.
