3:18 – We Are All Teachers
#faithbites #faithjourney teachers
Today I helped a mom learn how we sell girl scout cookies today. Then my youngest and I built her first Lego set. Now I’m trying to explain patience to her. These are all times when I became a teacher even though professionally I’m not. My eldest says I teach teachers how to teach better. So maybe I am.
While there are the times you know you are teaching others, the fact is while you may not think you are teaching, others are learning from your actions.
Scripture
- In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. – Matthew 5:16
- Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12
- Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1
Scripture
If we want to be followers, not just listeners of Christ, we need to be examples in all we do. Sure, we will mess up, but we keep moving and trying better each day.
People are watching and equate our actions with the groups we represent, like our church, our faith, and more.
Sometimes, when my kid acts up, I wonder where they learned that. Then I realize they learned it from me. Reminds me of the old marijuana commercials in the 80s. I learned from you dad.
We need to be mindful of whether we are trying to teach or not, people are learning from us.
Challenge
What are you teaching? Take a minute to think what others are learning from you. Is that the lesson you want them to learn? If not, think about how you can change it. Pray and ask for guidance.
Prayer
Lord, you are the best example we could follow. We want to be like you and teach your ways. Often we fall short. Forgive us for our shortcomings and help us to teach others in the way you would like. We love you and give you all the glory. Amen.
