Jan 13 – Playing Peek-a-Boo With God

3:13 – Playing Peek-a-Boo With God

#faithbites #faithjourney Peek-a-Boo

Not sure why, but today I was thinking about games we play as a child. I instantly thought of Peek-a-Boo as it’s an odd game. The baby sees us the whole time but we cover our eyes as if we disappear. Then the baby laughs when we come back. I understand they don’t comprehend object permanence but we have never left.

Many believe that they can play Peek-a-Boo with God if they hide their sins. Maybe if I put on a happy face, God and my friends and family, won’t see who I am.

The truth is, God sees us the whole time. He is like the baby waiting for us to remove our hands. He’s seen us the whole time and loves us no matter what we’ve. No sense in trying to hide from our father who sees all.

Scripture
  • And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. – Hebrews 4:13
  • “Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?” declares the LORD “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD. – Jeremiah 23:24
  • Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. – Psalm 139:7-10
Reflection

We may think we can hide but we can’t. God is always there and offers his hand to hold us and to lead is. Anywhere we are, he is there.

When we try to hide from God, we are just hiding from ourselves. It’s like when your child, or you as a child, does something bad and tries to hide it from you. You know they did it and eventually will find out. If they told you, it wouldn’t be as bad. The nice thing is, God doesnt hold grudges. Through Christ, we are forgiven.

So let’s save that energy of hiding and put it towards forgiveness and deepening our relationships with God.

Challenge

What are you hiding? Know that you can share it openly with Jesus. He loves you know matter what you do. Take time to open up and be forgiven.

Prayer

Lord, you are everywhere. We love you and are thankful for your grace. Help us to let go of the pain, hurt, and sin we are hiding. You have forgiven us for our sins. We love you and give you thanks for everything. Remind us always that you chose us to be in your family. Thank you for your ultimate forgiveness. In your name, Amen.
