2:190 – Are you open or just sharing the Highlight Reel?
#faithbites #faithjourney highlight
A new car, a second home, a new pet, a Disney trip, new adventures, happy kids, happy family, dreams coming true. This is what most people share on social media and even in person. This is the highlight reel of their lives.
When we view these highlight reels, we see them as their whole life. They don’t have the fights, money troubles, emergencies, health issues, unruly kid that we have. Then we look at ourselves and wonder why we can’t have those nice things. Why are we not as special as they? What have we done to deserve that. So we continue the myth by sharing only our highlight reel and the circle continues.
The funny thing is, no matter what we share with others, God knows the truth and loves us no matter what. He doesn’t need the highlights or the lowlights, as he made the movie and wants to help us through it.
Scripture
- “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5
- And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. – Hebrews 4:13
- Would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart – Psalm 44:21
Reflection
I try to be a real person. When I share, I share the good, the bad, and the ugly. Maybe I’m an oversharer, bit who knows. Here are three things we know: 1)God created us and knew us before we were born. No hidding there. 2) We are all naked and exposed before God. Again, no way to hide. 3)not only does God know us, he sees the secrets of our heart.
Our Lord knows all about us and loves us. Why don’t we share honestly who we are with others? Why do we have to show only the highlight reel instead of everything.
When we look at all those things, we need to remember a couple things. Facebook is not real life. When we see what people share, it is only half of what is going on.
We only need to judge ourselves against ourselves and God’s word. And when we mess us, Jesus will forgive us. No highlights needed, just the whole movie.
Charge
This charge is two-fold. First, try not to judge your life against others and what others share as it’s not the full truth. Second, you are good enough and strong enough. Someone else’s successes or failures aren’t yours. God is with you.
Prayer
Lord, help us to know you love us no matter where we are at in our lives. Help us see through the image others portray online or what they chose to share. Let us rejoice in others joy and mourn when they are grieving. We know the devil wants us to fall away from God and will do anything to may us jealous or envious. We know you have watched our whole movie and love it. Let us make the best movie we can for all to see. Amen
