2:148 – God Is Speaking, Are You Listening?
#faithbites #faithjourney speaking
I was meeting with one of our Pastors, and he asked me what the senior pastor could do for me and for the church. I said the number one thing I need is spiritual guidance. Someone to talk to and help as I wrestle with God’s word. I even said that I wish I knew what I was supposed to be when I grow up. Quickly followed by I wish God would just tell me what I’m supposed to do. Then, I answered, maybe God is speaking, but I’m not listening.
How do we listen to God. We hear him all the time. From that weird feeling in the pit of your stomach to that awkwardness when you are debating on what choices to make to being anxious on what the future brings for you. That is us hearing God’s answers but we are not Always listening to his direction.
Scripture
- Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. – James 1:22
- Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. – Matthew 7:24
- Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. – Philippians 4:9
Reflection
When we look at these three verses we learn that there are three parts to understanding God’s plan.
First is to hear the voice of God. We have to be open and converse with God. He will speak to us.
Second is to listen to the true voice of God. This listening comes with understanding. It’s also at this point where the world tries to stop us. Satan wants to deceive us and prevent us from step three.
Third is to put God’s plan into action. While God works don’t give us salvation, God has a purpose for us. Do you ever have the feeling that you are being given the same challenge over and over again and it gets harder each time? That’s God wanting you to make a different decision. When we actually follow what he wants, live is easier.
Now, it’s not always easy to listen and implement, but that’s why God keeps giving us the challenges.
I still don’t know exactly what God wants me to do, but I will keep listening and trying.
Charge
Like we said yesterday, baby steps. First, actively converse with God. Pray and talk with your voice. He will answer. Then listen to him. Finally try to act on it. If you mess up, try again.
Prayer
Lord, we thank you for your presence in our lives. Some days, we struggle to hear your voice. Help us to hear your voice and your plan for us. Thank you for giving us chance after chance after chance to figure out what you want us to do. Remind us that while it may be trial and error, you will always steer us right. In your name, Amen
