2:103 – Jesus: An Alien, A Lion, And An Inuit?
#faithbites #faithjourney alien
They say that God is everywhere, so is Jesus. In the past week, I’ve been realizing how many cultural icons are based in part on Jesus. Today, I’m going to dive into three of them.
Jesus: An Alien
Think about this hero. He was born on another planet. His father sent him to Earth to save the people here. He has powers unlike anyone else and would do anything to save humanity. The villains try to tempt him and find a way to destroy him. Sound familiar? Yes, Superman is Jesus….well, not Jesus but definitely influenced by Jesus. And for those playing at home, Superman is my all-time favorite here.
Jesus: A Lion
Think about this character. A mysterious presence who influences and helps those
Jesus: An Inuit
Think about this character. “Everybody’s in despair, every girl and boy. But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here, Everybody’s gonna jump for joy” or ”
Nobody can get no sleep, there’s someone on everyone’s toes, But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here Everybody’s gonna wanna doze”. A little note, these are lyrics from the Bob Dylan Song “Quinn the Eskimo”, it’s an amazing song. (I’m not a fan of the term Eskimo as Inuit is preferred. I learned that Eskimo means eater of raw meat, but I digress. I left the term in here because that’s the lyric). Sound familiar? Yes, The Mighty Quinn is Jesus
Scripture
- The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Watching the evil and the good. – Proverbs 15:3
- Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord. – Jeremiah 23:24
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast. – Psalm 139:7-10
Reflection
Our God is mighty and everywhere. We can’t hide from him, nor should we. His face shines in everything we do. From music, to comics, to movies, to how we interact with each other. He is always present.
I don’t think I would want a God I could flee from. Knowing that even if run away from him, he will be there to hold me fast. That’s our amazing God.
You never know how where God will turn up. When I was listening to the Mighty Quinn, I wasn’t expecting to see him there, but there he was with a good beat to remind me, I need him.
Charge
Open your eyes and see the beauty of Jesus. You can find him everywhere. take a minute to look at your life, where has he shown up? Remember that, and keep looking for him. He is in far more places than you would realize.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for making your presence known. Thank you for the artists, film makers, authors, writers, and more you insert you into their work. You remind us of your love and your omnipresence everywhere. Help us to open our eyes and our hearts to you at all times. In your name, Amen.
