2:73 – Just Be Kind
#faithbites #faithjourney kind
Sometimes I feel like my parents must have felt when I was little. “How many times do I have to say the same thing before you get it?”. I say this as I write another #faithbite about being kind.
As part of the Lenten season, I gave up trying to change people’s minds on politics, religion, and general social issues. We are a little more than. A week in. Some days are easier than others. I am getting better at just scrolling by things that tick me off and are just wrong. Others are true but only show one perspective and are out of contet. The main point, is the vast majority of these postings are not kind. They aim to push a point at the expense of another person. In a nutshell, they are not kind. The kicker is, most of the folks probably don’t realize they aren’t being kind.
It’s boils down to the Golden Rule. Plain and Simple.
Scripture
- So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. – Matthew 7:12
- Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” – Mark 12:30-31
Reflection
Some Bible verses require a degree in Divinity and a time machine to try to figure out what they mean. These two are pretty simple. Just love God, Love People and treat others how you would want to be treated.
If you don’t like people calling you names, don’t do it. If you don’t like your background being questioned, don’t do it to others. Want to be respected, then respect others. Want someone to help you when you are down, then help others.
Dont know if this is offensive to someone? don’t share it. Easy.
Charge
Before you hit like or share, think about how others will take it? If it’s kind, do it. If not, don’t.
Before you open your mouth, think about what your parents, grandparents, a judge, or your religious leaders would say. If they wouldn’t like it, don’t say it.
Prayer
Lord, you give us so many instructions on how to live life. You help guide us with your word and really simplify how we should treat each other. Help us to remember these commands and love each other fully. Remind us how we want too be treated and treat others the same way. Allow us to show your love to all those around us. In your name, Amen.
