February 9 – We’re Not Worthy.

2:40 – We’re Not Worthy

#faithbites #faithjourney worthy

We’ve talked about asking for help and getting help from others. What I’ve come to realize is that one of the reasons we don’t want to ask for help, is we don’t think we are worthy of the help and we don’t want to end up in debt to someone else.

Our world has taught us that of someone does something for you, you owe them something in return. I’ve had a few meals brought over, ice cream, coffee, and bagels. I’ve had my wife and daughters so more than they normally do. Now I wonder am I in their debt. What do I need to pay them back? How much will it cost me. Should I have just sucked it up and done it myself? Was I worthy of this.

Someone once told me that you don’t give a loan expecting to get repaid. You don’t do anything expecting to get it back. Sure it’s nice to get it back, but if you don’t you aren’t deeply hurt. If someone buys you lunch, you say thank your they shouldn’t expect you to buy the next time.

I know I hate not how most people work. I’m trying not to think like that. I know one person that I’m never in debt too as he already paid the price for me to be worthy

Scripture

  • And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. – 1 Corinthians 6:11
  • Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. – Romans 13:8
  • Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. – Matthew 5:32

Reflection

We owe love to everyone as that is what God has told us. We should give to those who beg and those who need. At the same time, we should pay what is due and owe nothing but love. We have been washed in the blood of Christ. We don’t owe anything as our sins are washed away

Sometimes it is hard to forgive a debt. Someone doing something for someone is one thing. It’s hard when someone says they will pay you back and they don’t. I am trying to live my life with giving and not expecting it back even if someone borrows it. If I get it back great. At the same time, I will try to be worthy of the Lord by giving freely to those who need the help

Charge

Do you give freely of your time and energy? Do you help those in need? Are you expecting a return other than a thank you? Try to give more like this without expecting something back. You will be surprised at the new relationship formed and how much you actually get back

Prayer

Gracious God, thank you so much for your servants. They have given us food, time, prayer, and we’ll wishes. They are making this recovery so much quicker and easier on my family and me. Give them your blessings. Help all of us to give more and expect less in return. We are blessed by your love and gifts. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
