2:21 – Writer’s Block or Life Block?

I just sat down at my computer to write today’s #faithbite and….nothing. I had some thoughts cross my mind then quickly fly out. Nothing seemed to be worthy to write or I had already done it. I almost say forget it and just threw in the towel for the night. But then I started to think, that writer’s block or life block is a real thing.
In my dissertation, I’m at a standstill. Trying to start again, refocus, and begin again. Often in life, it feels like I am staring at a blank screen. So many choices, but not words to fill the page. Sometimes, it’s even hard to pray when I don’t know the words to say. I often in my prayers say “Lord, I don’t know what to say or do. Please hear my heart and understand.” I know he does.
The struggle with writer’s block is real. The struggle with trying to find our direction or next steps is real.

- “My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.” – 45:1
- “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” – Psalm 32:8
- “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” – Philippians 4:8
Reflection
The Word is the most influential book ever written. It is our guidebook, our connection to the Lord, our source of strength as through it we learn more about our God. I don’t know if I have the pen of skillful writer, but I do know that the Lord is present in all I do.
When I started this #faithbite, I had a blank screen, now it is nearly full. He has given me his words, he has instructed me and taught me the lesson I need to share. Most importantly, God has kept his loving eyes on me.
We know how to get past a writer’s block or life block. We just need to think about what is excellent and praiseworthy. That is easier said than done.
Reading another scholarly article about the same thing you already know or trying to rephrase words that are already written is a challenge. But we do it all our lives. We listen to the Word and rephrase it in our thoughts and actions. The Word guides us, directs us, and fulfills us. The Word fills our screens, our papers, and our lives with words and direction. We just need to start typing, writing, and living.
Charge
Are you at a roadblock in your life? Are you unsure of what to write, what to do, or how to progress? Pray. Ask God for direction and then do. Start writing, start living, start doing.
Prayer
Heavenly Father. Please help all of us who struggle with blocks. Be a force in our lives to fill our screens, fill our hearts, and give us the direction we need. Give us the strength to know that these blocks help build us for future challenges. Allow us to learn these lessons, hear your Word, and continue on the path you have set out for us. In your heavenly name, Amen.
