Today’s lesson is about belief vs knowing.
We talk about believing in things all the time. Believing in God. Believing in magic. Believing in humanity. Believing in peace, justice, and the American Way. We say we believe in many things.
On the way to school this morning, Cece and I were talking about God. We got to school and she asked: “Daddy, Did Grandma Nancy know God”?. She didn’t ask if she believed in God. She said did she know him. Then I said yes she did. She talked to him every day. Her (Grandma Nancy) and I talked about God all the time. Then she asked if Uncle Adam knew God. I said yes he does.
then we talked about the old testament, new testament, Jews being the chosen people, Jesus being our savior. It was an amazing conversation.
——
“This is what the Lord says:
“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom
or the strong boast of their strength
or the rich boast of their riches,
but let the one who boasts boast about this:
that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord. – Jeremiah 9:23-24
“Open my eyes that I may see
wonderful things in your law.” – Psalm 119:18
——
How do we take our belief and turn it into knowing? We pray. We talk. We pray. We think. We pray. We commune. We actively take our faith and put it into action. Then we know our God.
Let us strive to be more like our children, who ask about knowing God, rather than believing in Him.
