3:325 – Turn It Over To God AND Work!
#faithbites #faithjourney over
Setting
I often feel lost in life. Am I a good person, a good father, a good husband? Am I doing what I’m supposed to? Would God like what I’m doing?
Many, myself included, say to not worry about it and turn it over to God. While that is true, we have a part to play. God gives us answers and then we need to do the work. It’s like going to the doctor, her telling you what your symptoms are, prescribing a treatment plan, and then not doing it. We are responsible for listening to God and doing what he tells us to.
Are you turning what God says to you into action?
Scripture
- Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
- Matthew 7:21 – Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
- James 1:22 – But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Reflection
Our God wants the best for us. We know following Christ isn’t easy. He told us it would be hard. But we have work to do. We can’t be followers of Christ and not listen. We can’t say we love our neighbors but not want to help them. When we see someone in pain and struggling, we need to listen and help.
God tells us to be doers so while we trust God we have work to do. Don’t give us. No matter how hard it is, we have work to do.
God doesn’t say to follow the commandments we want to or the advice we think is what we want to hear. We need to listen to him, follow him, and do the work.
Challenge
What is God telling you to do? Are you listening to his word? Bigger and harder question: Are you doing the work that needs to be done? If not, then truly look into your heart of hearts, pray, and do the work..
Prayer
Father God, thank you for always wanting the best for us. You answer our prayers when we ask. Let us hear those answers and put in the work to get it done. It’s not easy as often you tell us what we don’t want to hear. Even though we don’t want to hear it, we need to hear it. Watch over us and instill a heart of service, kindness, and work. In your name, Amen.
