August 16 – The Holy Spirit Is My Friend
2:227 – The Holy Spirit Is My Friend

#faithbites #faithjourney spirit

Much has been written about dreams. Their significance, their meaningless, their purpose in our lives. Whole they may seem random, for me, it’s a way for God to communicate with us.

Case in point. I had a radical dream last night that was a mix of The Big Bang Theory’s final episode, no spoilers, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, and international relations. Long story. Bit the core message to me was through the craziness, while I never had the spotlight I was both present and helping everyone out. From testing a challenge on the race, to helping the maintenance worker who was trying to fight a fire and repair our living quarters, to giving others the spotlight, to just being there.

My purpose is to help, show love, and be present. We all have our own roles.

When I think about the Trinity, in many ways, this describes the Holy Spirit. A helper. Growing the faith. Ever present.

Do you relate with the Holy Spirit?

Scripture
  • But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to youJohn 14:26
  • He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.Titus 3:6
  • Peter said to them, “Each one of you must turn away from your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins will be forgiven; and you will receive God’s gift, the Holy Spirit. – Act 2:38
  • The Spirit’s presence is shown in some way in each person for the good of all. 1 Corinthians 12:7

Reflection

We are created by God The Father. We are reconciled and forgiven through Jesus Christ Our Savior. We have faith and show God’s love through the Holy Spirit.

God knew that even though he sent his Son who died for us, we would need more help. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us from Jesus. Imagine that. Not just a little Holy Spirit, but generously poured out. He gives us this gift of a personal helper.

The final verse is interesting. We talk about being good Christians and doing God’s work. When we do good works, when we share Christ, that is the presence of the Spirit. He gives us the words to use, points us in the right direction, and helps us follow the law and the Gospel.

You are not alone. You have a personal helper. Think of Him as the angel on your shoulder trying to convince you not to follow the devil in the other shoulder.

For me, thinking that God gave me a personal helper gives me solace. I’m able to know I’m never alone and have a confidant with me always. And I choose to emulate him in how I help others.

Charge

Do you know the Holy Spirit? How do you choose to use Him? Is his presence shown in your acts? Pray. Ask for help and Guidance. God will introduce you to the Holy Spirit, your helper.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Each day, I’m more and more amazed by how many gifts you us. Help us know our helper. Remind us that his presence is shown throw everything we do. Let us hear his voice. He is our friend and our helper. We are so blessed. In your name, Amen.
