January 12 – Stretched Too Thin

5:12 – Stretched Too Thin

#faithbites #faithjourney

Intro

We ggo from the holiday season, to insane catchup. I feel like people took all the work of the last four weeks and shoved it into three days. From work to home to everything, just so much going on. I feel stretched way to thin. But, unlike other times, it’s a good stretched. I like all of these things and just going a bit nuts. Thus makes it hard to give up anything. It’s like everyone wants a piece of Sol and I want to give it. Still stretched a bit too thin.

Questions
  • What do you do when you are feeling stretched too thin?
  • How do balance the spirit of service with the need for rest?
Scripture
  • Psalm 127:2 – It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.
  • Colossians 2:8 – See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
Reflection

God wants us to serve but not at the expense of our health and we’ll being. When we are being stretched too thin, we may be lured by false victories and deceit (Colossians) or trying to fill our Godhole with worldly pursuits. They key word is may. All of the things we are doing could be good, but we just need to balance and make sure we are doing what’s in God’s plan

Today iisn’t so much about complaining, as I am blessed beyond measure. I just feel like I’m running crazy, helping, learning, growing, and being recognized. As much as we are weary of when we are under appreciated and taxed, we need to be mindful of the reverse.

As we close, remember to keep an eye on what you are doing, how much energy it takes, and what things are being left undone. God will help.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for giving us spirits that want to share, do, and be of service. We love that you have given us energy and the will to move and grow. Sometimes though, we can get involved in too much and feel too stretched. We ask you to help us prioritize what is important, how to say yes, and how to stay no. Lord, we also reach out to you for peace, healing, and rest. Help us to reduce the things that are not important, and use our energy in the way to serve you best. We pray this in your name, Amen.
