December 15 – The Grinch Who Stole Jesus

4:349 – The Grinch Who stole Jesus

#faithbites #faithjourney grinch

Prelude

This #faithbites is a variation on a devotion I will be doing on Friday for the sixth graders at school. I was inspired by a blog post I found while looking for devotionals.

Setting

Christmas is a fun time. Many of us look forward to new presents. We are so blessed to have all of these gifts. But what happens when you new present breaks? How do you feel? Even worse, what if someone stole it. Would you still be excited for it? How would that change your view on Christmas?

Scripture
  • John 10:10 – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;” “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
  • Isaiah 9:6-7 – “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
Reflection

Now let’s think of a Christmas cartoon that many people watch every year. It has a grumpy person with green fur and he doesn’t like the people in the village and wants to steal Christmas. What movie is it? What does he do the night before Christmas? How do the people react in the morning? No matter what the Grinch did, the Who’s still had the spirit of Christmas.

Christmas couldn’t be stolen, broken, or destroyed. Why? Because it’s not about the presents it abouts Jesus.  The second part of John 10:10 says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it “.

As we close, remember that the grinch may be able to take stuff and the theif make come to Destroy but you can’t steal or destroy Jesus.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for your Son Jesus.

You have saved us through faith and the forgiveness of sins. As we celebrate his broth, let us enjoy the gift giving and parties, while remembering that those things can break or be lost but the spirit, Jesus can never be destroyed, broken, or lost. He is with us yesterday, today, and until the end of the age. We pray this in your name, Amen.

Merry Christmas.
