December 12 – Let Someone Else Do It?

4:346 – Let Someone Else Do It

#faithbites #faithjourney someone

Setting

I can be a bit if a control freak. I like things done a certain way and I like to help people. When I can’t help people, I feel less. When I do let someone else do it and it’s not done right, or should I say, the way I would do it, I get mad.

But today, I tried something different. Today my back has been the worst it has been in weeks. Even walking is too much. So I let it go. I let some e else do it. My wife picked up the cooking and made Christmas candies with the kids. I watched and would occasionally help, but stayed out. I didn’t offer suggestions on cooking dinner or anything. I’m very greatful for the help.

God never wanted us to do it alone. He wants us to take turns leading and serving.

Today’s Questions: When it’s your time to serve, how to you let the other person truly lead? How do you accept the service? When it’s time to lead, how do you lead gracefully?

Scripture
  • Galatians 6:2 – Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
  • 1 Timothy 5:8 – But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Reflection

God wants us to multiply celebrations and divide burdens. In Galatians, it’s very clear that we need to bear one another’s burdens. It may be hard to accept someone else doing it, but it’s the service God wants. You aren’t being replaced, you are getting helped. We all need sabbath rest. We can’t get it jf we are always going. And yes, stuff has to get done. The only way to juggle it, is to serve and be served.

As we close, practice letting someone else do it. Take time to turn it over, not judge, and accept the help.

Prayer

Fater GGod, thank you for for my friends and family. Thank you for helping me know when I have to say enough and let someone else do it. Lord, help us to follow your commands and truly delegate, give it up, and let trusted friends do it. It’s not a sign of our weakness but one of strength. Help us to get better at this everyday. In your name, Amen.
