November 1 – Don’t Boast, Tomorrow Is Unknown

4:305 – Don’t Boast, Tomorrow Is Unknown

#faithbites #faithjourney boast

Setting

Lately I been talking with people about salaries and jobs. I have sheepishly explaoned my salary and experience. I have felt terrible like I am boasting Bout my salary and opportunities. It felt like privilege and every sentence was a boast when that wasn’t my intent. Those who I’ve talked to have said they dont take it as boasting and know my intent. I hope that us true. God warns us not to boast as nothing is guaranteed and we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. The only thing we know for sure is the Jesus is our salvation.

Scripture
  • Provebs 27:1 – Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
  • James 4:16 – As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.
  • Jeremiah 9:23 – Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches,
Reflection

Our verses are pretty clear. We should not boast. It does not good to brag. The question comes is when are we sharing what God has done for us and when are we boasting? I used to think this is hard but it comes down to our intent. Are we saying it to puff our chests and put someone down or are we sharing how God is working in our lives.

I know we can’t always see what our impact on others will be. We can try our best and have our best intentions. What we can do is put God first, thank him for what he’s doing in our lives, and always put him first.

As we close, remember that its ok to share how God is working in your life. When he is working and you are giving him the glory, it’s not boasting.

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for how you are working in our lives. Help us to share that without sounding prideful or boastful. We want to always give you the glory. We pray for your help with this, Amen.
