4:293 – Rebel With A Righteous Cause

Setting
This is a day when God made it known what we wanted me to write about for #faithbites. I was scrolling through the book of faces and saw this picture. It really made me think. What do we think of as important? I count my money and want more. I eat too much and know I shouldn’t. All of these things are physical. Yes, I need to take care of my health, but what is the big picture? Did God create us to count all of these things and live in this 8-5 work environment structure? If we truly want to follow God, how do we become rebels with a righteous cause?
Today’s Questions: How can we rebel against the system while still following God’s laws? How do we focus on what he has given us instead of counting physical things?
Scripture
- Luke 6:38 – Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
- Mark 4:24 – “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more..
Reflection
Being a rebel doesn’t mean turning away from God. It also doesn’t mean that you can’t be a good citizen. In this case, we are casting aside what society measures as important for what God thinks is important. In Luke, he even tells us to be careful how we measure things as that will be used to measure us. If I’m measuring the bits and pieces of my life, rather than looking at God as a whole, I don’t want others, including God, to measure me by the sum of my parts. My spirit is what’s important and should be measured. We see in Luke to be givers at all times. That giving will turn into rewards where it will run over everything. This doesn’t mean we give to get, but see that God will reward us for our service and faith.
As we close, remember that things that can be counted and measured on a scale aren’t how God measures us nor should we measure ourselves that way.
Prayer
Lord God, help us to be more like you. Have us stop measuring what isn’t important and focus on what is. Help us to search, reach out, and share your word. When that happens, then we can count how God is working in our lives. We praise you and thank you. Amen.
