4:238 – Let’s Talk About God!

Setting
One of my favorite things at work is to talk about teaching. Our discussion isn’t to solve the world’s problems or a specific course, but just the nature of teaching. It’s fun to think about “what if” scenarios and figure out new ways to teach. It’s a great way to exercise the mind. Similarly in college, I would have several conversations with friends of various faiths about God. Not about how we are serving or going to church, just talking about God. It’s another opportunity to share Christ and what God means to you. You can also learn from other denominations, faiths, and religions what their higher power is. You don’t have to believe it or follow it but having the discussion and help you appreciate how He is moving in your life.
Today’s Questions: How do you make time to talk about God outside of a church service or Bible study? What can you do to learn more about how others perceive and worship God?
Scripture
- Genesis 1:1 – In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
- 1 John 4:16 – So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
- Colossians 1:16 -For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
- 1 John 5:9-10 – If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son.
Reflection
When searching for today’s verses, I had a lot to choose from. I chose to focus on those that help us talk about God. From creation to God’s love, to how we talk about him, to Chris Jesus these are all topics to discuss. Any one of these topics could be an hours-long conversation. It is fun to discuss and debate. His word is Truth, our perception of it may be different as God may be telling us different things based on our gifts. We get to talk about it in an atmosphere of love and respect. Just typing this makes me excited to have another faith conversation with someone. Now we have to turn it into action. We have to take the time to have these discussions. It’s not enough to read your Bible or go to church once a week. We have to embody His word and we do that through sharing, debating, and growing together.
As we close, pick one Biblical topic or passage or event and talk about it with someone. The experience is enriching for both of you. A minor warning, if there person isn’t ready or willing, don’t push it. there are others who will be.
Prayer
Father God, you are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. If you aren’t worthy of being a discussion topic, then no one is. We pray that you give us opportunities to dive into your word and share with others. Help us have conversations on what it means to us and how you are working in our lives. Let us have open ears, open hearts, and open minds to listen to each other and grow in you. We pray this in your name, Amen.
