Setting

Yesterday, I heard a term that was new to me, progress Christianity. The term progressive isn’t the same a political progressive but it means interpreting the Bible according to the world we live in. I’m not sure what that means, but I do know that my God is a loving God and Jesus is My Living Hope.

What doea that mean? It means, that God is alive, his Word is applicable to today, and I can live by it. It doesn’t mean that I rewrite the Bible or don’t pay attention, but rather understand how His word applies to today. God’s word never changes, how we understand it can as he reveals new things each time we read it. We need to get away from labels, name calling, and pointing figures. If we focus on Jesus as our living hope, then we will always succeed.

Today’s Questions: Do you believe God’s word applies to all situations? If so, how can it account for situations that didn’t exist andit was written?

Scripture
  • Hebrews 4:11-12 (NLT) – 11 So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
  • 1 Peter 1-3 (NLT) – All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation,
Reflection

We have a living hope in Christ Jesus. God brought Jesus into this world to be with us, one of us, and to lead us. The Word became flesh (John 1:14). Jesus fulfilled the law, and gave us new condenses commandments. He changed the game for us to love him and love others.

With that being said, we know that God never changes. His word never changes. What changes is what God chooses to reveal to us through his word. He make scripture known to is to impact our lives. What we need to do is understand his Word and how it applies to us. We do that through his guidance, prayer, and reflection.

As we close, don’t ever think God is dead. Don’t ever think there is no way for Gods word to apply to today. Know that God loves, you, wants you, and that you matter in his plan.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for living and continue to love amongst us.

Father God, your word is alive in us and applies to everything we do. Help us understand how to apply it to our unique situations. We pray this in your name, Amen.
